Benefits of Routine Fluid Testing

Routine fluid testing helps to increase data center efficiency, minimize downtime, maximize equipment life, and ensure compliance. Below are examples of the types of issues fluid testing helps to detect:

  • If coolant in the generator cooling system degrades over time, or is mixed incorrectly, it loses its ability to transfer heat. This can cause engine overheating, automatic shutdowns, water pump damage and coolant leaks.
  • If rust or water finds its way into fuel, it can clog fuel filters, fuel lines, or injectors and reduce fuel pressure. This, in turn, can lead to hard starting or failure to start, reduced engine performance, and other issues.
  • If calcium scale builds up inside chiller tubes, it restricts water flow and diminishes the system’s ability to transfer heat. As a result, the chiller is forced to work harder, which uses more energy and increases operating costs.

By identifying these and other issues in the early stages — before they cause equipment damage or shutdowns — routine fluid testing can help extend the life of critical equipment.
