COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY (CR)

A MORE FLEXIBLE, DIGITAL OPTION FOR RADIOGRAPHY

In this digital age, it’s no surprise that clients in every industry are increasingly choosing computed radiography (CR) over traditional radiographic testing (RT).

Computed radiography replaces the film and chemicals used in conventional radiography with a phosphor imaging plate that is scanned by a laser beam to produce an image. While the results are comparable to conventional X-ray, the CR process offers greater convenience and flexibility.

The Lab Services team at Industrial Inspection & Analysis (IIA) is proud to provide state-of-the-art computed radiography (CR) testing to clients in a wide range of industries, including aerospace, defense, pipelines, building and bridge construction, chemical plants, and Department of Transportation projects. The applications for CR are as diverse as the clients we serve – from finding flaws on piping welds to frayed wires in electronic components. Our team has also used CR to perform forensic analysis on bug zappers, electric blankets and fuse boxes to determine the cause of a fire.

BENEFITS OF COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY

Our state-of-the-art CR system makes non-destructive radiographic testing easier, more productive, more accurate, and more affordable:

  • DIGITAL IMAGES: Offering greater flexibility and convenience, CR digital images can be printed to actual size for comparison, sent anywhere in the world instantly, and easily incorporated into presentation software. Plus, CR images can be viewed on any computer — eliminating the need to buy a special viewer to examine an X-ray using traditional film (RT).
  • HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGES: Capable of capturing more detail and depth with one exposure than traditional RT, including both thinner sections and thicker sections, CR can reduce the number of images required and thus aid in cost containment. Our cutting-edge equipment features a positive pressure filtered air system to keep dust and dirt at bay and preserve image quality.
  • SPEED: In many cases, particularly with smaller jobs, CR is faster than conventional radiography.
  • STORAGE: Digital storage saves space and eliminates concerns about physical storage conditions and shelf life of film.
  • SECURITY: Original images cannot be altered. With our CR system, any changes to original images are automatically saved as new files.
  • REPORTING: In addition, our user-friendly, DICONDE-compliant CR software includes helpful measuring tools and filters to quickly and easily enhance an image.
  • SAFETY & SUSTAINABILITY: Compared to conventional radiography, the CR process requires less exposure time, fewer chemicals and zero heavy metals.

Our CR equipment and services are ISO 9001 and DICONDE compliant. Tests can be conducted in a pristine, environmentally controlled lab environment.
