Lab Services

Using state-of-the-art measuring tools and technologies, our Lab Services team performs dimensional inspection (also known as metrology services) to compare the actual condition of a manufactured part or component to that defined by engineering drawings and blueprints, metal or film templates (decreasingly), digital files and 3D CAD models (increasingly), or even a master tool or part. Our environmentally controlled laboratories are well equipped to handle virtually any inspection need, with accuracies and measurement resolutions down to mere nanometers. In addition, our Florida lab can provide electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)/radiofrequency (RF) testing for marine radar and other wireless devices.

Lift Equipment Inspection & Certification

Our lift equipment experts are skilled at performing maritime certification functions of vessel cargo gear and shore-based material-handling devices involved in transferring materials or equipment to or from a vessel or drydock. We are accredited to perform the required inspections to certify the following types of maritime equipment:

  • Floating Cranes & Derricks
  • Shore-Based Material-Handling Devices
  • Stevedoring Gear

Wire Rope Inspection

Our wire rope inspection capabilities include magnetic wire rope testing (MRT) technology that allows us to evaluate the internal and external condition of wire ropes and help our clients make informed decisions about the life of their wire ropes. Our methods use patent-pending technology to detect and accurately measure rope deterioration, such as: clusters of broken wires, interstrand nicking, fretting, core condition, and corrosion pitting. The MRT system operates with minimal rope preparation and is not affected by grease, paint, ice or other materials. An MRT evaluation can help you:

  • Reduce downtime
  • Establish wire rope retirement
  • Determine remaining service life of wire rope
  • Safely return rope to service following an incident
  • Eliminate the potential for wire rope fatigue failure
