IIA Offers a World of Regulatory Experience in Electronic Device Testing

May 3, 2024 | < 1 min read

As wireless technology rapidly evolves, so do the rules and regulations affecting the products we live, work and play with. New standards and test methods, and changes to rules and regulations, are always on the horizon.

Most countries regulate the testing and certification of digital devices, radiofrequency (RF)/radio devices, and products with integrated wireless technologies before they are imported, marketed and sold. However, most manufacturers don’t have the resources in-house to learn what is required to place their product on the market.

Partnering with an experienced, full-service testing provider like Industrial Inspection & Analysis (IIA) allows manufacturers to focus on what they do best: creating a quality product. Along with a full range of electronic device testing capabilities, IIA offers something it’s hard to put a price tag on: regulatory insight gained from 50 years of experience.

A World of Experience
IIA’s Florida testing lab brings half a century of experience testing and certifying wireless devices for markets around the world — from medical devices to marine radar.

We understand the specific needs and requirements of an array of industries all around the world. Our testing and certification services span markets in Australia, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and Vietnam —to name a few.

The EMC team at IIA has established strong relationships and ongoing communication with regulatory agencies around the world. For example, IIA experts meet monthly with the Federal Communication Commission (FCC), participate in international workshops hosted by Ministry of Internal Affairs & Communications (MIC) Japan, and are active in organizations such as the Radio Equipment Directive Compliance Association (REDCA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Taking Care of Business at the TCB Council
Our experts also help to shape the regulatory landscape by serving in leadership roles in industry organizations. For example, the Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB) Council — whose board of directors includes leadership from IIA — hosts biannual meetings to promote dialogue between the FCC and TCBs, and to further improve TCB performance. (A TCB, such as IIA, is an accredited organization with the authority to issue Grants of Certification for compliance with FCC rules and regulations.)

TCB Council membership includes regulators, federal agencies (e.g., FCC, ISED Canada, NIST), accreditation bodies (e.g., A2LA, ANAB) and other interested parties, such as test labs and manufacturers.  Attendance at TCB Council meetings (in person or online) is mandatory for certification staff employees and contractors to maintain their qualifications and competency as certifiers under their scope of accreditation.

Our Florida-based EMC team has a strong presence at meetings of the (TCB) Council.

“The meetings help lab personnel and manufacturers stay current on the latest regulations and guidelines,” says Bruno Clavier, IIA General Manager and TCB Council board member.  “Beyond the important learning that takes place, we like to attend TCB Council meetings in person to connect with our certification customers and meet regulators face to face. Sometimes we introduce customers to regulators to discuss ongoing projects or technical issues.”

In-depth, up-to-date knowledge of global rules and regulations — and strong relationships with regulatory agencies — allow IIA to streamline your testing and certification experience. And that means faster speed to market for your product.

The IIA Difference
