Upholding the Highest Standards: NADCAP-Accredited Tensile Testing Now Available at IIA

October 16, 2025 | < 1 min read

A basic form of mechanical testing, tensile testing involves applying a pulling force to a material and measuring how it responds to the stress. The information provided through tensile testing allows engineers to determine if a material is suitable for the planned application, making it a valuable tool in many industries.

Tensile testing is one of our specialties at Industrial Inspection & Analysis (IIA), and our St. Louis lab recently earned NADCAP (National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) accreditation to perform tensile testing. The NADCAP credential reflects our commitment to upholding the highest testing standards for the aerospace and defense industries.

IIA is also NADCAP accredited to provide non-destructive testing (NDT) and NADCAP audit support. Only premier companies in the aerospace supply chain receive NADCAP accreditation — and IIA is proud to be among them.

What is NADCAP?

NADCAP is a global cooperative that sets standards to ensure top quality and consistency of special processes used across the aerospace and defense supply chains. NADCAP is managed by the Performance Review Institute (PRI).

Aerospace and defense are the primary industries involved with NADCAP. However, the NADCAP accreditation may be of interest in any industry where quality and safety are paramount, such as medical, energy, and transportation.

What Does it Mean to be NADCAP Accredited?

NADCAP accreditation is a mark of credibility and capability in the aerospace industry and beyond. IIA’s NADCAP accreditation for tensile testing represents independent verification that IIA is capable of performing tensile testing that meets the highest aerospace and defense industry standards. The NADCAP credential signals to aerospace and defense suppliers that they can rely upon IIA tensile testing for material compliance verification.

To earn NADCAP accreditation, a supplier or service provider must successfully complete a rigorous NADCAP audit — a thorough, independent assessment of compliance with industry standards.

The comprehensive and stringent review involved with NADCAP accreditation validates a number of critical areas, including:

  • Technical assessment of testing processes and equipment
  • Personnel qualifications
  • Clean, environmentally controlled lab environment
  • Internal quality assurance (QA) procedures and corrective action plans
  • Compliance with industry standards, procedures, and protocols
  • Accurate documentation and traceable data

Our NADCAP accreditations attest to IIA’s ability to consistently produce accurate results that meet or exceed industry standards for quality.
