Mike Maguire: People Person, Problem Solver

It’s safe to say that Mike Maguire’s five children did not appreciate his safety mindedness as much as we do at Industrial Inspection & Analysis (IIA).

“Growing up, my kids couldn’t stand that I was so focused on safety. They would be having fun doing something, but I would look at the situation and see the hazards and make them stop. That’s just the way my brain works,” says Mike. “I enjoy life, and try not to take things too seriously. But I can also be serious when I need to be (just ask my kids).”

As Senior Sales Manager for IIA, Mike is serious about selling inspection services that help keep other families safe.

“It’s great to work for an organization that is geared toward the safety of people and equipment,” he says. ““IIA is a very large company involved in pretty much every market in North America. It’s nice to know that we’re providing a much-needed service in the industries that we support.”

Mike spent nearly 20 years selling specialized automated welding services before joining IIA as Senior Sales Manager in August 2020. In this role, he sells non-destructive inspection and test lab services primarily to customers in the Gulf region — Louisiana, Texas and his home state of Florida.

The caliber of his co-workers makes his job much easier.

“The technicians that work here are all solid people and very talented at what they do. Their skills are far above average,” he says. “When you know that those are the people going out and representing the company, it’s a lot easier to promote IIA services.”

His approach to sales is simple: “Under-promise and over-deliver.” To help him do so, Mike relies heavily on the many technical experts that work at IIA.

“One of the huge benefits of working at IIA is the plethora of subject matter experts we have,” he says. “I rely heavily on them during technical discussions with customers so we paint an accurate picture of what IIA can do.”

Mike is enthusiastic about promoting value-added services that set IIA apart, including proprietary technology such as PASS®, ARMUT® and AIRIS™, and advanced NDE techniques such as guided wave testing. This seasoned sales pro always has an eye out for untapped markets.

For example, “I’ve been working more with engineering firms to try to provide them advanced, ‘outside-of-the-box’ NDE solutions that will help keep their customer base happy.”

His days on the road over the past two decades — including years of intensive travel to South America in a previous role — have made this family man appreciate family time all the more.

“In my career, I’ve missed out on more than a few holidays. If I could spend all my free time just hanging out with my family, I would,” says Mike, who has many fond memories of watching his kids play sports. “Over the years, some of our family’s best times were spent at the baseball and softball fields.”

When he’s not savoring family time, Mike finds much to enjoy in his job at IIA.

“I enjoy meeting people, and I like fixing things. It’s very satisfying to find solutions for our customers’ problems and make their lives easier,” says Mike. “I enjoy doing what I do, so I look forward to each day.”
