As a leading provider of lift equipment inspection and certification, Industrial Inspection & Analysis (IIA) stays up to date on changing regulations to help keep our customers in compliance.
In January 2020, WorkSafe BC (reference: 13.23, 14.71 and 20.47) and the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) released a professional practice guideline titled “Annual Equipment Inspection and Certification in British Columbia.” This guideline provides a standard of practice for equipment certifications in British Columbia, introducing changes to industry standards. Our Canadian Services team is obligated to abide by this guideline for certifications performed in British Columbia.
As per the guideline, the following equipment will require engineering certification of not only the structure, but the mechanical and control components as well:
WHAT WILL IIA PROVIDE?
For structural inspections and documentation, you can expect the same professional service that IIA has provided through our Canada-based subsidiaries for decades. Immediately following the inspection, we will provide a field report detailing our findings. Once any noted deficiencies have been addressed, we will issue a Structural Report, which is a structural-only certification.
To comply with the regulation, mechanical and control inspections that have been performed on your equipment in-house or by a third party are to be provided to IIA in order to confirm your equipment is safe for use.
Final Certification will be provided by IIA once the structural, mechanical, and control inspection portions have been completed and submitted.
MECHANICAL & CONTROL CERTIFICATION
The owner of the equipment is required by the applicable standards to demonstrate the preventive maintenance (PM) of their equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. Your PM program should be completed by maintenance personnel deemed qualified and competent by their employer(s).
As per WorkSafeBC/EGBC, in order to certify that the equipment is safe for use, IIA is to confirm that the mechanical and control inspections are completed in accordance with the WorkSafeBC regulations. This will require an agreement with IIA that details the scope of work.
