IIA Acquires Timco Engineering, Inc.

January 17, 2018  – Newberry, FL – Industrial Inspection & Analysis, Inc.® (“IIA”) USA — a leader in providing inspection, testing, and engineering services for the energy and manufacturing industries — has acquired Timco Engineering, Inc. (“Timco”). With this acquisition, IIA adds all of Timco’s highly regarded product safety testing and certification services with strategic locations in the U.S. and China.

Timco Engineering services include testing and certification of consumer products and other devices emitting RF waves for compliance with the requirements of the Federal Communications Commission, Industry Canada, and the European Commission.

IIA will strategically align Timco Engineering with its existing brands, expanding its global platform and will continue operations under the Timco name.

Timco is IIA’s 8th acquisition since its inception in 2015 and its first completed for 2018. The resulting combination of all IIA brands and technologies will represent one of the industry’s most comprehensive portfolios available in the testing and inspection industry.

Our History

Timco Engineering, Inc. was incorporated in the state of Florida in July 1976. However, Timco got started in Miami Florida in January 1972 when the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) started mandating that “receivers” obtain Equipment Certification.

In July 1981, Timco tested one of the first IBM “Acorn” personal computers and submitted a test report to the FCC.

In August 1992 Hurricane Andrew a powerful and destructive Category 5 Atlantic hurricane struck South Florida, passing directly through the city of Homestead in Dade County (now known as Miami-Dade County). Subsequently, Timco owner and founder Sid Sanders relocates to Newberry Florida, approximately 10 miles west of Gainesville Florida.

In 1996 Timco Engineering, Inc. was granted accreditation under what was then ISO Guide 25, and now known as ISO/IEC 17025.

In 2000 the FCC establishes the Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB) program which allows recognized and accredited test laboratories to issue Grants of Equipment Certification for compliance with Federal Communications Commission Rules & Regulations. Timco was among one of the first organizations awarded with the authority to issue Grants on behalf of the FCC.

In May 2002 Timco was designated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as a Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) for the Radio and Telecommunication Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) authorized to issue technical certificates of approval for the European markets.

In 2004, as an accredited test laboratory, Timco was designated as a recognized Foreign Certification Body (FCB) by the Canadian Department of Industry to issue Equipment Certification for Canada.

In 2010 Timco was accredited and recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a recognized P25 test laboratory to conduct performance, conformance, and interoperability tests on digital communications equipment for emergency responders. Timco was also accredited for the Specific Requirements for Interoperability and Performance Testing (Department of Homeland Security) Project 25 Compliance Assessment Program.

In 2011 Timco was one of the first test labs to test and certify with the FCC a Whitespace device.

In 2015 Timco under its accreditation to ISO/IEC 17065, is designated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to the European Commission as a Notified Body for the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), as per the requirements specified in the Radio Equipment Directive. Timco was also designated by NIST to the European Commission as a Notified Body for the EMC Directive, as per the requirements specified in the EMC Directive.

In January 2018, Industrial Inspection & Analysis, Inc. (“IIA”) USA — a leader in providing inspection, testing, and engineering services for the energy and manufacturing industries, acquired Timco Engineering, Inc. (“Timco”).

In 2019 Timco issued the first grant under FCC Part 96 CBRS Access point in the LTE Band 48 (3.5 GHz band)

In 2019 Timco issued the first FCC grant 5G mobile phone for Motorola z3 with moto mod.

In January 2021 Timco issued the first FCC grant for an indoor access point with the FCC equipment class 6ID for UNII-5-6-7.

In May 2024, IIA EMC Services (formerly Timco) will add SAR Testing to their list of services.

Timco under the IIA umbrella is highly regarded for its Product Certification services, and its Wireless Testing services with strategic locations in the U.S., Canada, and Asia.
